New photographers learn how to get off automatic
January, February and March are particularly busy times for us to run our beginners photography courses as a result of gift voucher sales over Christmas and people wanting to do something new each year. Being able to teach people how to use the cameras is a real joy and a privilege so I look forward to this busy time every year.
For many people they have tried fiddling with a few settings but end up with mixed results so they simply head back to good old auto. Numerous other course attendees tell us that they simply have no idea about any of the camera settings and so out of fear they stick to automatic.
The good news is that photography is not complicated – the jargon is – but actually modern camera make taking good images pretty simple, the camera manufacturers just need to sort the language out but I am not sure that is going to happen any time soon.
I have put together a few images below show casing images taken by our students on our beginners photography courses run in Chelmsford, Cambridge and Maidstone / Rochester.
