Professional Portrait Photography Diploma

 

Learn the art, craft and business of successful portraiture

 

If you are looking to elevate your portrait photography to professional levels then this is the portrait programme for you.  Over a period of six months your skills will be stretched, tested and developed until you are shooting stunning portraits with your own unique style.  Places on each cohort are limited to ten so please contact Nick on 01245 494258 or email [email protected] if you wish to apply.

 

The programme consists of a series of 1:1 sessions, group classes and open days where you will cover the following:

 

  • Studio portraiture
  • Lifestyle portraiture
  • Advanced portraiture
  • Natural light / off camera flash
  • Post production / editing – Adobe Lightroom / Photoshop
  • The business of portraiture – marketing, sales, pricing, products, suppliers
  • Image critique / portfolio building
  • Broad range of styles covered – studio, lifestyle, fashion…

 

Requirements

 

In order to be accepted onto the portrait diploma programme you will need to be competent with your camera (A DSLR) with an understanding of ISO, aperture & shutter speed.  Additionally you will need to meet up with a member of the Unshaken Photography team to discuss your aims and ambitions with regards to the programme – an informal chat but we would like to ensure that everyone who attends is right for the course.  If you need help with your photographic fundamentals then please apply for the beginners digital photography course.

Genres covered

You are able to select the style of portraiture you wish to cover or leave it open for a broader experience.  The aim of the programme is that you work towards developing a stunning portfolio that you can use to attract new clients and establish your name.

 

Programme format

 

The professional portrait diploma programme consists of six face to face sessions which will be selected from a range of options once you have enrolled onto the course.  The face to face sessions will be a mixture of 1:1 days, small group sessions as a cohort and also our open programmes.  You will have the opportunity to specialise in studio or location based portraiture or alternatively to work across both formats.  There is some flexibility in the attendance days which will be finalised during enrolment. You will receive continuous ongoing support in-between each face to face session

 

Assessment

 

This is an assessed programme, you will need to devote a substantial amount of time to creating your own images, setting up shoots and working on your portfolio.  You will receive continuous ongoing support from your mentor through email, telephone and Skype in addition to your face to face sessions.

The assessment is made upon a final panel of 20 images that you present in both printed and digital format at the end of the six month period.  Your mentor will make the final decision on whether the award can be made.

Investment

 

The fees for the programme are £950 which is paid in two installments. Fees include all notes, tutoring, assessment and on-going support

Location

 

The diploma face to face sessions are run from Chelmsford in Essex.
